Jonathan D. Lam, MD, OD, was this year’s recipient of the Hopkins Comprehensive Eye Care Award. Dr. Lam is a primary care/ocular disease resident at the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility in Chinle, Arizona.
Douglas W. Hopkins, OD, FAAO, was a leader within the Primary Care Section of the Academy who died unexpectedly in 2007. In his honor, friends and colleagues established the Douglas W. Hopkins Primary Care Fellowship Fund. With their generosity and that of Doug’s widow, Roberta, the fund rapidly became fully endowed, and the first award was issued in 2012.
The award is meant to promote the practice and improvement of complete eye care by offering incentives and help to gifted optometric residents who demonstrate a passion and dedication to additional clinical expertise, analysis, and schooling.
Of the applicants who utilized, Dr. Lam presented an impressive resume of experience in clinical research, volunteer service, and lecture presentations.
In the meantime, Liandra Jung, OD, was named this year’s recipient of the Bert C. and Lydia M. Corwin Contact Lens Residency Award. Dr. Jung is a primary care and phone lens resident at the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry.
The award is meant to promote the practice and improvement of the sector of contact lenses by offering incentives and help to talented optometric residents who demonstrate a passion and dedication to practice, research, and schooling. Maria Liu, OD, Ph.D., Chief of Myopia Control Clinic at UC Berkeley said, “Dr. Jung is a stunning clinician, with great potential in translational research and teaching. I’ve no doubt that she’s going to excel in any setting of her choice.”
